'for'' 'since'

hi everybody.

i want to certain differences between since and for...i know where i use them but i can not explain to my students clearly.How can separate them from each other when i teach to my kids?

please send me your ideas...

hi, "for" is used when you are talking about a lump sum of time. E.g.,

1. We have been friends for a long time.

2. We have known each other for a decade.

3. John has been absent from school for 3 days now.

very simple "for" is used for period of time but it doesn't show particular time

But "Since "is also used for period of time but it shows particular time.

Examples :

He is playing for two hours means he is playing for two hours but we don't know the particular time from 2 am to 4 pm like that

He is playing since morning means he is still playing fr

ok banu tnx.but one of my student asked very different question:)) at that time i stucked. u know turkish sentences are different from english. some sentences in turkish cant be explained clearly when we compare with english:))

yeah this is siple in understanding but teaching is more different and diffucult.
