for or considering

Which of these is correct?
He has stolen a lot of gold for/considering his level. [about a game]

or

He has stolen a lot for/considering his age.

In principle, both "for" and "considering" will work in both sentences. However... "for his age" is more often used for good (or at least neutral) things, I think, like "he is very tall for his age".

  • "for his level" is not such a common combination as "for his age", and I think "considering his level" is easier to understand, and also avoids any possibility of misinterpretation as "for the benefit of his level".
