For or As?

In this instance, is the use of the word "for" acceptable, or would "as" be better?

To her, he was an example of how desperation could bring out the worst in human nature, for his actions were senseless.

Both are OK. I prefer 'for'. It sounds more definite, and also seems a bit more stylish in tone.
