For not many several hours(X)?

Please look at the following question.

"Copies of the popular children's book had been placed on bookstore shelves for not ___ several hours when they sold out
(A)quite (B) many (C) still (D) only

The correct answer is (A)quite.

[Q1] As you see that sentence, there are hours, which means we can count the hours. Why can't we use "many" there like "not many several hours"?
[Q2] In the sentence,
a) for not many hours
b) for not several hours
c) for not quite many hours

Is every phrase of a),b),and c) okay in grammar?

[Q3] I could understand why the questioner wrote like "the popular children's book". Should it be as "children's popular book" or "the popular books of children's"?

Thank you for your teaching in advance.

Son James [Q1] As you see that sentence, there are hours, which means we can count the hours. Why can't we use "many" there like "not many several hours"? Because the underlined has no meaning; it's nonsense.
