For money or fo for nothing

One day, an old man was on his way to a village. Suddenly he saw a board standing by the roadside with the words “Telling the way to some place for 5 yuan.” Behind the board, there was a young man reading a newspaper.

The old man ask him angrily, “Does everyone have to pay for asking the way?”

“Yes!” said the yound man.

“It isn’t right to ask for money, young man. You should help everyone when they need it.

“No. If you help them and ask for nothing, they won’t believe you.” said the young man.

The old man didn’t think so. He found a board and wrote some words—“Telling the way to a place for free.” Then he put it beside the young man’s board.

After a while, a woman came here. She looked like being lost. She was looking at the two boards carefully. The old man pointed to his board and asked her, “Can I help you?” The woman looked at him and his board for a while. Then she said. “No, no, thank you.” And she wanted to the young man.

Actually, regarding this sentence, I put a strike-through over the word "wanted". So then, it would be like this:

And she went to the young man.

I have no ideas why that strike-through didn't appear on my previous comment. To A
