For learning or to learn

Hi!

I am new in this website, so hello everyone. As a spanish native speaker, I have a question about which of the below phrases is correct, or even if both are and the matter of discussion is if one of the phrases is the american way to say it and the other one is the british way:

- I made this to learn how to do it.

- I made this for learning how to do it.

I am not quite sure which one is the best. I would ensure that the second one is the one I learnt in the school, but I am not sure at all. This is a common discussion as a native spanish speaker, because the second one makes no sense in a direct traduction, but the first one does and that makes the confussion. And if you search it on the internet, both ways are shown, so I do not know.

Thanks for the answer!
