For + ing or To + bare infinitive for purpose.

Even though I have been around this matter for years,I still don't understand it very well. Can somebody tell me when I must use For+ing or To+bare infinitive when explaining the purpose why I'm doing something?

For instance:

1-It's time to do something different.

2-It's time for doing something different.

3 These beds were build to sleep comfortably.

4- These beds were built for sleeping comfortably.

Those were only a few examples, but I know there must be hundreds to go around.

Which of the above sentences are correct?

I'm not sure, but I think I have even heard people using To+ing when explaining purpose.

I think there might be a "hint" to master this aspect.

2. This is awkward-sounding. The phrase, "for doing something different," is difficult to use.

3. This is ungrammatical. The following would be okay:

These beds were built to sleep three comfortably. (Why is this correct when the original is ungrammatical? This apparently has to do with idiomatic usage and sentence rhythm.)
