For in present perfect tense

I am an English teacher in Turkey.Last week one of my students clamied that "for" can be used before "the last year" and any other time expressions started with "the". I haven't seen anything like that before. If this is correct, I want to enrich my knowledge. If not, so there is no problem for me. Could you please help me about this subject?..
Thanks from now
