For him to have things like books on the breaking of curses,

Please look at the following sentence.

"For him to have things like books on the breaking of curses, antique book and technique shops would get on their knees and beg him to give them to them"

[Q1] Is this sentence correct grammatically? I think "For him to have things like books on the breaking of curses" looks strange.
Is it the same as "He has things like books on the breaking of curses" or "Since he has things like books on the breaking of curses"?
[Q2] What is the meaning of "get on" there?

Thank you in advance for your teaching in advance.
