- Mary wants to celebrate / throw a housewarming party this weekend.
- Mary wants to throw a small party for her new convertible with her friends.

- Are these two sentences grammatical?

I may throw a party for my daughter, my husband, or even (if I were a little girl) my dolly, but I've never herad of anyone throwing a party for her car.
