'For' + Complete sentence

Hello everybody.

"Forgive me Father, for I have sinned."

I think the above sentence is from The Bible, and what is confusing me is "I have sinned" part. Is the grammar acceptable now? If one said "Forgive me father, for committing a sin" or "Forgive me father, for my sins", would it sound better and more natural?

Could you please help me?

Edit: I almost forgot! Merry Christmas all.

Excuse me. I've made a mistake.

Does that sound okay to you?

"For" in this case means "because."

You will have very little success trying to convince people to change traditional Biblical wording.

Hello Grammar Geek. First of all, thank you.
Grammar GeekDoes that sound okay to you?
Well it does not sound OK to me because, for example, we say "I apologize for acting so childish" but not "I apologize for I acted so childish."

The grammar is fine - like I said "I hope you will excuse me because I've made a mistake" is perfectly natural and approximately the same grammar.

Thanks once again. Well I was about to edit my post because I did not see ""For" in this case means "because.""

If I may, I would like to ask one more question;

Suppose that you did something you should not have done. Which sentence would you choose when talking to your mother?

I apologize for doing it.

I apologize because I did it.

Is it just a matter
