for being and for having been

Hi,
Please take a look at this and please tell me if what I think is correct.

Joe has won many awards for being a great actor. -- the word "being" states what he is - a great actor, and that made him win many awards.

Joe has won many awards for having been a great actor. -- now, I think this says that Joe isn't in the acting business, but has won many awards for his past work.
