For and animals?

Which is more natural, 1 or 2?

1) I think the dog is more faithful than any other animal.

2) I think dogs are more faithful than any other animals.

Should I write “for”?

We spend a third of our lives sleeping. Considering that, we will have slept (for) 20 years by the time we are 60.
