Footnote.

Can someone please send my footnote?

I would like to make it a bit shorter, do you guys have any tips?
Is 'In the first instance' good English?
And 'from considerable correspondence'?
Are the comma's correct?

"In the first instance, it was unclear whether or not these trade variables were corrected for inflation. From considerable correspondence with the World Bank, it became clear that this was not the case. Therefore, US$ inflation numbers were needed."

Top answer

I changed the last sentence a bit. I don't mind the size of the sentences anymore, but I'm still not sure about the commas and 'From considerable correspondence'. "In the first instance, it was unclear whether or not these trade variables were corrected for inflation.

"In the first instance, (OK) it was unclear whether or not these trade variables were corrected for inflation. From (After reading the... , After having...) considerable correspondence with the World Bank, it became clear that this was not the case. Therefore, (OK) the variable ‘Net trade-index (Value)’ was adjusted by ‘Inflation (annual %)’."
