Football/Soccer

Being in Asia, how can I clarify when it comes to a confusion between soccer and football meaning the sport that is played by feet.
Thanks.

In the UK, and, I believe, many other parts of the world where English is understood, "football" means soccer. If some other kind of football is meant then this must be specified. In the US, as I understand it, "football" is by default understood to mean American football.
