Vocabulary

football pitch v. football field

Which one is correct for the place with grass on which the football game is played?

Is it named "football pitch" or "football grass" ?

When I googled them both seems correct but I have some hesitations.

Thank you.

In British and international English, in reference to the game of soccer, the term is "football pitch", never "football grass". In the US, "football" usually means American football. An American forum member will be able to explain the terminology there.

Sorry, I asked it wrong. What about "football field" ?

Is it football field or football pitch?

In the UK, "football pitch" is the most common term, in my experience. "football field" is also known, and the word "field" is also used as a synonym for "pitch" in various ways not in the direct collocation "football field". In your own sentences, I recommend that you stick with "football pitch". Again, my answer assumes that you are talking about the game of soccer in a non-US-specific context.

A football pitch is the marked-out area within whose boundaries the game is played.

A football field is the flat, grassy area on which one or more pitches are marked out.

Note that we're talking about a tract of land where amateurs or children play the game - not a dedicated professional stadium with seats for spectators.
