Fool yourself about your emotions

It's unfortunate for you if you behaved. For your determination not to show your feelings meant, in a way, that you were fooling yourself about your emotions.

Hi,

Is it right to view "fooling yourself about your emotions" as "cheating yourself about your trure emotions?" Thanks.
