Food over from the party?

Thanks again. I always look forward to answers from AS, they being very helpful. I don't mean to drag this on, but I see there is one related post: https://www.englishforums.com/English/FoodOver/vxrcv/post.htm

Here a retired moderator and tutor from UK -- Feebs11, seems to be objecting to the use of the verb 'were' with the uncountable noun 'food'. But he did not protest the addition of 'left' there.
