Food-flavoring/seasoning substance

Making matter worse, the artificial butter substitute that generally comes with microwavable popcorn contains a common food-flavoring substance ... Then pour the popcorn into a bowl and season with a small amount of real butter or olive oil and natural salt.

HI

Is "food-flavoring" in the above interchangeable with "food-seasoning," and "season" with "flavor?" Thanks.

A food-flavoring is likely an extract. The labels here would say either "natural flavoring" or "artificial flavoring". Vanilla/vanillin is a common food-flavoring (though not for popcorn).
