Hi Shiva K,

Use followup for noun and adjective:

For example:

1. The patient did not return for followup - Noun

2. Followup exam will be in 3 weeks - adjective

Use follow up for verb

For example:

Dr.Shiva will follow up the patient in 3 weeks - verb

Hi Sri,

You said:

Dr.Shiva will follow up the patient in 3 weeks.

Are you sure this is how doctors say it?

I would have expected an intransitive use,

Dear Clive,

Sometimes English grammar is overlooked in medical documents.

In most of the medical records, we can see transitive use like:

I (Dr) will follow up the patient in 3 weeks.

I will follow up with the patient in 3 weeks - This is very rare to see in medical records.

Sri

Hi Shiva,

Followup and follow-up both are same. Follow-up is an acceptable alternative of followup in medical documents.
