Fodder

The racial slurs against her on the show became fodder for prime time TV in the UK. Ultimately, it led to her winning the show thanks to sympathy votes, gaining new fans and huge popularity. Channel4, the broadcasters of the show, started receiving complaints and protests demanding an apology for the racial slurs against her by another contestant on the show, Jade Goody. Back home, Indians woke up to her and her ultimate victory in the show was akin to a moral victory for all Indians.

Please explain to me the meaning of "fodder" in this context.

fodder: inferior or readily available material used to supply a heavy demand <fodder for tabloids> (www.m-w.com)

Fodder is food for farm animals. In this sentence it means, metaphorically, fuel. It is the (informational) fuel that keeps the fire of controversy burning.
