Each unit focusses on a different area of methodology and ....

There seems to be no such spelling in the dictionaries that I have consulted. Is it a typo?

It is modeled after "bus" "busses" and is an alternate spelling, as far as I know. Nowadays it seems that most writers do not double the "s" in such patterns.
