Flute recital/play

#1 His flute recital/play was highly appreciated .

Are both recital and play correct here? We use recital for performance of poetry. But I am not sure we can "recital" with flute performance. when I google it I find two mentions: "Flute recital by Pandit Hariprasad" and "How to play flute".

Thank you
