FLUNKY-ISM

Hello,
someone could say me the exact meaning of this expression on this sentence?:
'There were a lot of records out that were padded and schmaltzy odes to FLUNKY-ISM and neither one of us wanted to added to its ranks'
Thanks in advance, Jo.

Hi, A 'flunky' (or 'flunk e y')is a person who does unimportant things for a more important person, like a servant, someone who is obsequious. The -ism is added to make an impromptu noun from this word. Without more context, it's hard to say exactly what the speaker means, although he is obviously being critical of the music he is referring to.
