Fluctuation in the voltage

Hi

Are the underlined parts natural phrases? Any suggestions?

  1. There's too much fluctuation in the voltage today. All the lights are going dim again and again.
  2. Sudden voltage fluctuations can be a great hazard to the electrical appliances at home, such as TV and fridge.
  3. The sudden dropping of the voltage last night ____________________ my TV.
  4. The sudden rising of the voltage last night ____________________ my TV.

Which verb would be suitable in the dashes? I mean to say eg "My TV went out of order / malfunctioned because of the voltage going up or down."

I've never heard anyone speak of 'fluctuation in the voltage', or even use the term 'voltage' in this way. It seems too technical for everyday use. I'd just say eg The power keeps flickering.
