Would you say that both sound equally natural to you?

  1. I've got the flu.
  2. I have got flu.

#1 is the one I would automatically use. Most illnesses don't get an article, but the flu is one of the illnesses that normally do. The flu.

  • The plague
  • The runs (diarrhoea).
  • The clap (venereal disease).
  • The lurgi (British slang for some sort of indeterminate cold/flu-like disease)
