Flu

Everyone around me is ill and even the doctors complain that they have too many people coming in with a cold or flu.

"There has been a flu outbreak/an outbreak of flu."

"There is a flu epidemic in our city."

Could I use these sentences or would you be more likely to say something different in a similar situation?

Thank you.
