Floating on the stream

Can I say,

The boat is floating on / in / at / along / down / up the stream.

If I used "down" or "up", that would suggest that the boat is moving. The boat would be moving only because the water is moving.

I might possibly say "the boat is floating on the water", but I don't think I would ever say "the boat is floating on the stream".
