Floating menu? Drop-down menu?

Hi,

Please have a look at the blue horizontal menu at the top of any page on this site.
If hou hover your mouse on "Forums" you'll get a sub-menu, and another will crop up when you hover it over "ESL basic and EASY questions". I was wondering whether there's a specific term (not technical jargon) for it.

I know the one in the below picture is a drop-dow menu. Would this expression be fine? How about floating menu? Have you got any other suggestions?

Thank you! Emotion: smile

Hi,

I'd call it a drop-down menu.

To me, a floating menu is one that can appear anywhere on the screen.

eg the menu I get right now if I right-click anywhere, and which goes away if I then left-click.

I'd call both these terms technical jargon. It's just that all of us are starting to learn it.

"Drop-down menu" would be understood perfectly. It's not jargon. You could also say "drop-down list."
