Flickering glance

Hi

Two women were talking.

One of them thought to herself:

She spoke brightly, she smiled; only her elusive,
flickering glance betrayed an inner lack of ease.

I understand "elusive" as "hard to notice". What about "flickering glance"? Maybe "quick look"?

Hello When speaking of a glance, elusive means 'difficult to find or catch'. A flickering glance, as it is used here, takes on the meaning of a repetitive, extremely quick and nervous series of jests that betray her smiles and bright conversation and permit the observer to see that she is actually quite ill at ease. Flickering implies that her glance is repetitive and extremely quick in duration.
