Flick one's tongue

Hello,

In the book "Parrot and Oliver in America" by Peter Carey, one of the main characters, Parrot, was put in jail. Parrot shares his cell with a strange murderer who is trying to persuade Parrot to murder the prisoner's son because the son witnessed the murder of his own mother. Parrot refuses and the prisoner react in the following way:

‘Oh, no need to rush,’ he said, now crouched like a wrestler, hands on his wide knees. ‘You’ve got a long night to think about it.’ He dared to smile, flicked his tongue, and I pulled myself back into the dark..."

Could you, please, explain to me, what it means that he "flicked his tongue".

Many thanks.
