Hello, I'm struggling to think of a good synonym for "fled" in this sentence. I'm not sure if "escaped" works as well.

In response, she pushed him to the ground, and fled the room.

How about this?

She pushed him to the ground and scampered, tripping on the steps before clambering out of the cellar.

Scampered sounds too light-hearted for the context. How about bolted?
