Flash On ....

A quick question:

What part of speech is the "on" in the sentence, a preposition or an adverb?

"I just flashed on my first day at the college."

Unfortunately I couldn't understand your question. You might want to rephase you sentences again. 'On' is a preposition to apply on places, direction & time etc..

'On' is a preposition to apply on places, direction & time etc..

Hi.

It's just what I asked earlier. "What part of speech is it?" is what I meant. With the "on" an adverb, you would say, "I flashed it on," but with the "on" a preposition, you should say, "I flashed on it." I just wanted to clalify it.

Preposition:
I just flashed on (had a sudden mental image of) my first day at the college.
Adverb (phrasal verb particle):
I just flashed on (turned on a slide projector that showed) my first day at the college.

Statistically, the second meaning is much less likely, in my opinion. It depends on context.
