Flash at one, ball connects thin air

Morkel to Tendulkar, no run, Tendulkar is winding up here, back of a length outside off, Tendulkar comes down the track, flashes at one, beaten as the ball connects thin air.

Could you please explain to me what "flashes at one" and "ball connects thin air" means here?

Though I guess "flash at one" means "Tendular moves quickly his bat to hit the ball".

Yes he flashes at one -moved quickly to hit the ball Connects thin air - he missed, the bat and ball didn't connect. He's not missing many as I type this - enjoy the IPL

Thank you friend.
But may I know what exactly "thin air" means here?

thin air - nothing. It dissappeared into thin air - It dissappeared without trace. So in your earlier example the ball touched nothing!
