Fix something in one's memory

Hi,

How come that you can 'fix something IN your memory' but at the same time can 'log something IN TO your memory'? Isn't it the same structure? Why are the prepositions different?

I'm sorry. These are probably silly questions.

The usual collocations are:

Commit something to memory

Fix something in one's memory. (Less common)

Memorize something.


I've not heard "log" used in this context.
