"Fix", and "fix a problem"?

Dear All,

Could you tell me, please, whether the verb "fix" in "to fix a problem" is formal or informal usage (and if informal, what other word I could replace it with)?

Also, could you let me know if the following sentence-fragment is correct? :

"...related affairs need to be checked to find out what the reason for her behaviour was and how the problem can be fixed."

Thank you very much!

There is nothing particularly informal about 'fix', though there may be a better word in the field. Your fragment potentially mixes register at several points ( related affairs, check, find out, behaviour, problem, fixed ), so it is difficult to judge without seeing it in fuller context.

Thank you, Mister Micawber, then here's a context:

Let's suppose there's a boss who doesn't like to point out to her assistant that he (the assistant) has forgotten something or that he did a task wrongly, but it clearly shows in her behaviour. Whenever something isn't okay, she acts angry, irritable etc.

Could you, please, tell me which words are out of place in the fragment wit

Oh, something like this, I suppose:

...those instances/incidents should be examined to discover the reason for her behaviour and decide/consider how the situation/relationship could be improved.
