Is fix a synonym of cigarette? I don't know, I have read this in a book:

A "fix" is a dose of your preferred drug, e.g. "a fix of heroin". (It "fixes" you, i.e. it stops the craving.)
In this instance, the drug is nicotine; the cigarette for which the reformed smoker reaches is therefore a "fix" of nicotine.
