Five solutions to fix the computer problem

(1) Tom came up with five solutions to the computer problem.

(2) Tom came up with five solutions to fix the computer problem.

Some of my non-native English friends think it's redundant to say "fix" because "solutions" means fixing something.

Is it both grammatically wrong and redundant to include "fix" in (2)?

Thanks a lot.

Both (1) and (2) are correct. I doubt that I would use "to fix" in that sentence, but that doesn't mean it's wrong. CJ
