Five lines to correct

Hello,

Could you please correct my senteces? :

  1. We had to stay until we finished/had finished all the work. (the book's key says 'had finished' is correct, could we also say 'finished'?)
2. The company decided to put/ put out an advertisement for the job in a national newspaper. (the book's key says 'put' is correct, would 'put out' be correct as well?)

3. The winner finished his speech by thanking/ thanking his parents.

4. It's a month since I applied for the job.

5. It's been a month since I applied for the job.

are both 4 and 5 correct?
