Which one is correct?
I can see only that part of it that fits the screen.
......that part of it that fits in the screen.
.......that part of it that fits on the screen.
(in a scenarion when somebody sends you an image that has a too high resolution for your device)

So is there a rule when one should use the or that when refer to a particular thing (part of the thing)? 'I want that phone'. I can't use 'the' here without changing the meaning of the sentence. So why can't I use 'that part of it'? It is based on the same logic that I'm talking about that thing and not another.

Repi So why can't I use 'that part of it'?You can. In this particular sentence, the definite article seemed to be more natural than the demonstrative.
