Fishing village to metropolils

Hi,

The following sentence is from the media. I am trying to understand why the author did not use any articles before ‘fishing village’ and ‘metropolis’.

'Burj Dubai is an engineering marvel representing the pinnacle of 's evolution from fishing village to metropolis.'

Thanks,

MG.

Musicgold Would the meaning of the sentence change if replaced the words with ‘a fishing village’ and ‘a metropolis’, respectively? No. I personally prefer this sentence without the articles (and presumably the author felt the same), but I find it extremely difficult to give a logical reason why.

Hi guys,

To me, the version without articles makes me think more generally,

ie of 'the characteristics of all fishing villages, of all metropolises'.

Best wishes, Clive
