Fisherman

Fisherman, the Killer

I didn't know whether I've given a proper title for the drama, so I post my question here.

The gut of the drama (Fisherman, the Killer)

In Song Dynasty of ancient China, a bawcock (an outlaw) called Xiao En returned to live/hide among the ordinary people after the insurgence that he joined failed. Xiao En fished for a living with his daughter Xiao Gui Yin.

A local tyrant, Ding Zixue sent his flunkies and roughnecks to dun Xiao's fishing tax, and extorting Xiao. Xiao was very angry, hitting the bad men away, and then he went to the government to accuse Ding. But Lu Ziqui, the top official of the county government, colluded with the local tyrant, Ding, and framed up Xiao, saying that Xiao refused to pay the tax. Lu ordered to punish Xiao, who then got 40 blows by big clubs at the court. Lu also ordered Xiao across the river to apologize to Ding Zixue, despite of that was then at night. In a great rage, Xiao killed Ding's family.

According to the gut of the drama above, is the title "Fisherman, the Killer" okay?

It's a very good plot for a drama. I would say that the title is slightly misleading. In my view, this was a case of justifiable homicide.

  • I would submit, tentatively: 'The Fisherman's Revenge' or 'Xiao the Fisherman'.
  • But it is your story, and so your title may be more appropriate to the way you intend to develop the plot.

I think if Xiao just killed Ding, then he could be considered as justifiable. But actually he killed Ding's family, including children, who should be consdered as innocent.

That's true.

I withdraw my remark.

I think your title is more eye-catching & modern than my suggestions, on reflection.

Hello Jobb

It depends what impression you want to give.

If I saw 'Fisherman, the Killer' in lights on the front of a cinema, it would make me think 'arty, probably foreign, limited-distribution film'. I would expect something very strange, because the combination of words is very strange. I might buy a ticket.

If I saw 'Xien the Fisherman', it would make me think 'tr
