Fish tank or tank of fish

We can say speed sound or the speed of sound...body parts or parts of the body. But can we say tank of fish instead of fish tank? Is there a rule for this in english grammar? Does the change affect the meaning?

speed sound - incorrect speed of sound - correct body parts - correct but it sounds as though they are separated - as though the person has been dismembered! parts of the body - correct tank of fish - correct but only if there are fish in the tank fish tank - correct name for the tank that holds fish. It doesn't say whether or not there are any fish inside it.
