I have heard a popular idiom used several times, but I am confused on what exactly the wording is.

First things first. (Like "Ladies first".)

First thing's first. (Like "First thing is first.")

It means that the thing that takes priority should be discussed or attended to first.

For example, if you were meeting with friends to go to dinner and then out to a club, and everyone was debating what club to go to after dinner, you might say, "Ok, but first things first. Let's pick a restaurant for dinner."

It doesn't have anything to do with allowing ladies to go first. An
