Hi all,

I have some problems with these 2 sentences:

1. Last month's service level was 5% lower than September.
Should I use 'was' or 'is'? Well, the service level belongs to last month, that's why we use 'was'. Or maybe no matter what happens, last month's service will still be 5% less than September, so we should use 'is'. I'm confused here.

2. . I'm thankful that you elected me chairman of the ***.
Would a 'the' in front of chairman sound better? Is it grammatically correct?

This is my first post. Thanks for any feedback and i hope to be able to contribute as well.

Both of your original sentences sound fine to me. or Maybe the first sentence should be: Last month's service level was 5% lower than September's. I am sure someone else with better English skills will help you with this.
