First Introduction Rough Draft for Psychology course Please help!!!!

Introduction To Post:

My name is Lisa Meade, and I'm a thirty-four year old homemaker in Bristol Tennessee. I live with my fiance', Byron, and his son, Derek, in a two bedroom apartment in walking distance of fastfood restaurants, the mall, and Big K-Mart. Derek will start his first year of Tennessee Highschool this year, he will be fifteen, in March of 2008. My fiance' is disabled due to two back surgeries, the last resulting in screws and rods in his lower to middle back. Before I became a homemaker, I worked for Burger King near our residence. I worked there for almost three years, trying to establish a management position there.

Last year I decided that I wanted to pursue a career, instead of the lower paying jobs here. This year, I decided to go for it, and register for Ashford University's online classes. I had taken a Psychology class in Business school, approximately ten years ago, and enjoyed it immensely, so I decided on a bachelor's degree in Psychology to start off with. My main goal is to eventually obtain my degree as a registered nurse.

I spent many years working in nursing homes, I was not certified to take care of the residents, but I was allowed to do so, after my Director Of Nursing ( DON ) saw how aware I was, of the residents' needs and requirements. I loved hearing the elderly ladies tell stories about their lives, and I didn't mind the harder aspects of the job, for instance, changing the adult diapers, and bathing the residents. I in return became very educated on skin tears, respiratory illnesses, and I formed many bonds. It was not all fun, there were deaths, and some residents weren't so partial to the bed baths, so I took the chance or being hit, spit on, bitten, and scratched!

This course will help me to relate to patients and residents by teaching me how to manage my time, to problem solve, and to make critical decisions that may result in the end as life or death. Also this course would allow me the freedom to learn counselling techniques if I decided to explore my options as a Psychologist, if I choose to do so. I can use relevant information taken from this course, and assert it into my own lifestyle, and utilize what I learn, to benefit myself, as well as others.

The main dimensions that I am wanting to grasp, are personal living skills, such as organization, managing my time in a more constructive manner, and how to troubleshoot and problem solve are the main areas that I need to excel in. I look forward to learning and debating with each and every student taking this course. I wish everyone the best of luck and success!

I have covered the following areas:

current profession- homemaker
academic field of study- Bachelor's in Psychology
most memorable professional experiences- when I worked in nursing homes, I loved to listen to the residents' stories and I furthered my education.
What profession I'm ultimately seeking: I want to be a Registered Nurse
What I want to gain most from taking this course: social skills, problem solving, kelp me to relate better to others,to make critical decisions, learn stress management, the ability to obtain a better paying job, assert what I learn into my own lifestyle (organizaton skills),time management, and troubleshooting
