first draft letter of motivation

I am applying a PhD position, this is the first draft of the motivation letter. Can someone give me somt suggestions?

I will never forget the class in which I first see a paramecium. With a microscope I could clearly see its movement and feeding, and at that time, Biology began to be my favorite subject. Actually, interesting things always attract a young man.

At the age of 16, follow my family's will, I entered ** University ** to major in Aquiculture while I wanted to study Biology. Fortunately, Aquiculture has a lot of common grounds with Biology, and for more experience, I assisted a Ph.D. to finish her thesis: 'Studies on the Induction of Artificially Genetic Inactivation and Effects of Ultraviolet Irradiation on the Morphological Structure of Sperm in Japanese Scallop'. In these studies I was deeply attracted by the research and confirmed the goal of life: to be a research scientist in Biology. As an adult, I should design my own way on my will, so to get more theoretical and practical knowledge on the way to be a scientist, I entered *** University as a graduate student in 2004, majoring in Microbiology.

In these two years, as learning the basic knowledge, I worked hard to improve research ability such as many kinds of technologies in Molecular Biology, Protein Biochemistry and Mice Model, etc.. At the mean time, the competence of collaboration, designing a project, and communication were all improved.
