First day in the job?

Hi

Can you say

How was your first day in the new job?

Sounds odd to me, "at work" is what I would use.

Thanks!

You can say either of these:

How was your first day on the job?
How was you first day at work?

("new job" is not needed because that's implied by "first day".)

New question regarding the same topic:

After ten years in the job, she felt stale and needed a change.

That's what I found in an online dictionary. Is that 'in the job' supposed to be 'on the job'?

It would be "on the job" for me. Maybe "in the job" is a British turn of phrase. It sounds wrong to my American ears.

These are both fine in BrE.
