"My thinking is first and last and always for the sake of my doing, and I can only do one thing at a time."
A quote be the philosopher William James.
Hello,
I have looked up dictionaries for definition of the seemingly idiom "first and last", but still I'm not sure about its meaning in this context.
Does he mean that thinking is the most fundamental part of his being? (this was my ultimate conclusion).
I would be so much thankful of any help from you.
