Firefighter-medic

I've been a firefighter-medic for years, and here's a big secret about firefighters, medics and police, after they drop your fat useless butt in the ER they make fun of your fat useless butt, your trashy house, and your ailments. They are all but insulting to your face, I've even seen guys roll their eyes, flirt with girls in the area, and other rude, downright disdain for the public.
I am reading a thread on another forum. The quoted passage is from a poster who is probably an American, though I am not sure.

What does "firefighter-medic" mean? Does it mean a paramedic who works /belongs to a firefighting department instead of a hospital?

Thanks!

Minnaloushe What does "firefighter-medic" mean? I suppose he has training in both and participates in both—working for a fire department, certainly.

Yes that's generally what it means. In America it is common that those working in firefighting roles are also given basic emergency medical training. They're not usually fully licensed paramedics although the term medic is used. Many do go on to take the more advanced training to achieve such but in most cased firefighters will have EMT-Basic or Advanced EMT training to treat someone while waiting

First responders is a term that is currently used.
